The idea is, that translators, that aren't on the top of their game and lack proofreaders, are able to mark their uploaded chapters as "needs proofreading" (or "work in progress"). Those chapters should be auto-filtered and not be shown to the common visitor, that strolls in or marks it as "Reading", simply to keep the chapter list clean. Instead a new reading status called "Proofreading" could be added for the interested users, that like to offer their help.
There are enough people, that post their take on how they would have translated certain texts into the comment sections anyway. By making good use of such comments, the quality of these "low-quality" translations could be improved tremendously.
As a none native english speaker, I can't always guaranty for the quality of the texts I write, but in most cases I am able to distinguish between well written sentences and broken ones, when I read those myself. (Reading stuff is always easier than writing it.) I believe the same holds true for those translations. Also, changing the text bubbles in the image manipulation program, the translators use, shouldn't be too hard for them, as they should still have their image templates for those chapters ready for editing. They can simply re-upload the new versions, until the product reaches a desired level of quality. Then the status of the chapter can be changed to "Finished" and it will be presented in the regular fashion to everyone.
There is the "danger" of fragmented uploads, but I expect, that most translation, that make use of that feature, would still upload whole chapters, so it shouldn't be too bad.
Implementing this would require to add another tag/property to the chapter uploads and the above mentioned, new "Reading"-Status, I imagine. I strongly believe this feature is worth the effort, as it would also help aspiring translators to improve their skills, without being showered in demotivating, let's call them "criticizing" comments. Mangadex would also distinguish itself by offering very powerful help to those beginner translators.
