@lexy It was because last chapter, towards the end, Rakan was telling Jinshi a story about the courtesan he wanted to redeem from the Rokushokan whose price was raised above what he could afford due to a bidding war between two other wealthy guys. Rakan said "if the price is too high, then you just have to lower the price". Jinshi asked him "how does one do that?", and Rakan deflected by talking about the case from this chapter instead.

The answer is "get her pregnant". His strategy did not work out as he expected.

@sinisempi It's from the LN or so the web novel translator says because she has volumes of the LN. She even made a volume breakdown of the chapters in her wordpress comparing the WN to the LN like chapters removed, added, or switched around.

Also I love how easy it is to follow how Maomao solves the problems but still makes it satisfying in how she does it.
But please no romance, that would just be too weird

page 40 : as mentioned in previous chapter 25 , rakan adopted his capable nephew and made the nephew do all his works for him , so now rakan can lazily slack off .

so the military officer Basen hates mao mao for some unknown reasons , and he look likes Gao shun .

i dont read the web novels , light novels , so everything below are not spoilers , they are just my wild guesses / wild assumptions , so they could be wrong :

I guess Basen is the younger brother of the eunuch Gao shun . and Basen is cross-dressing as a maid servant of Jinshi . in the page below , "she"comes from the military side , so "she" is not an officer 's attendant , "she" is a military officer .

i guess Basen hates Maomao because Maomao has a close relationship with Gao shun and Jinshi .
