I also have relatives I call "aunt" and "uncle" eventhough our ages are only a year or two apart.
Here's how it was explained to us:
My paternal granmother's siblings had their children and those children are my dad's cousins, making them our aunt and uncles.
No idea if what they taught us to call them is true, but there you go. And yes and no -- I am Asian, but not Chinese.
