Situation normal.
Though... Someone trapped her in this virtual world where she got everything she wanted. (Except her love.) And "trapped" is a bit off since she voluntarily walked into it and thoroughly enjoyed it for a couple of years. Sort of like getting absolutely sucked into an MMO for a couple of years. Hmm.

Wait so are we supposed to like the emperor or not? I feel like the way she's written flips every other chapter

I get the feeling that this plotline is going to be a reconciliation with the emperor, the emperor realising that conquest would be empty and changing her tune, and bai ji walking away with another source of power. I guess now she's got knight powers, vampire powers, a pet dragon and gulan powers she's probably getting sufficiently levelled up to go fight the elder god. Not sure where else there is to go here except maybe also getting elf powers or catgirl powers?
