Wow. That whole sequence was horribly written. Its not even misdirection, the flow of events outright LIES by omission to the audience. Then feeds you a ham-handed reversal sequence right after to paint Kurosawa in a better light. He still left Reiko to freeze to death after her fall and deliberately tried to manipulate a teenager into potentially taking his own life on icy mountain range. He's not a good person, he not an antihero, he's just shit.

Carrying that for 10 years and blaming and punishing yourself, no one to talk to no one to understand and u can't take the load off ur chest. I mean it was a tragedy, he couldn't do anything, but everything that happened after the accident was his fault, he choose to lie and take the blame instead of accepting reality because of his own ego. The world blamed him for something he didn't do? Yes, but he choose this future himself, he put a fake mask and took villan approach only beacuse he couldn't accept the fact that his girlfriend sacrificed her life for him. He was too scared to tell others about it because it would make him look weak so instead he choose to be hated by everyone. In reality he dissmised the soceity not the other way around. Not to mention that after personally knowing how it feels to be misjudged and blamed by everyone, he did an article where he manipulated the facts he was aware of only for his own gain which in result destroyed lives of three young people + he manipulated Mori, put him in danger, and didn't want to take responsibility for it.

You have weird way of putting him on a pedestal only because of his ego based self sacrifice and you completly dismiss everything that he did after that. I understand that you may like dramatic, kind of edgy characters with hidden tragic past like this, but realistic people won't, simply beacuse instead of accepting reality he chose to lie + he thought only about his own profit while making article about Mori and he manipulated him into life threatening situation. It's funny to see that you try to gaslight others into thinking that they are too childlish to understand this "complex and deep character" without similar expiriences in life, while at the same time, you neglect to acknowledge all the bad things he did.
