@criver They're the same thing, she shows that she doesn't care about them by ignoring their advances. Why is that difficult to understand?

@redpandamaniacal

I am referring to:
a person or a group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment

Our MC is doing neither. He's just uncovering contradictions in their stated reasons for their behaviour. Clearly the kids will not go and say "we're bullying her because we don't like her/we're bored/we want to play out some authoritative figure" and will rationalize their behaviour with bs. He's just not letting them use this bs, and since people are in general unwilling to admit that they are acting like villains it causes cognitive dissonance, and they give up and run away. Note that what he's doing is way beyond the capabilities and understanding of a kid, and while the manga tries to pass it off as a result of his "innocence" it's implausible. But it's a manga, so who cares.

Yeah, the bullies are trying to emulate a "parent" state, but the MC basically doesn't let them by not acting like a child or a parent would (by giving into pressure/ getting pissed) but rather as an adult. This flips up the dynamic to where they perceive the MC as the one in the parent state (adult and parent state are hard to differentiate for kids, especially if they are younger) and themselves in the child state, which causes them to feel "defeated" and give up. To be sure, the implausible part in the whole thing is the MC's convenient honest misunderstanding of the bullies. I can buy that he does this intentionally but pretends not to, I cannot buy the "innocence" argument - there's only so long this can work irl. Fortunately this is not irl.

Here's the issue though:
Ideally, we get a timeskip where she turns super hot, they try to get her attention and get told to fuck off
^ what would be the purpose of adding a scene of the above?
a) for her to gloat over the fact that she can have her "revenge" over childish antics?
b) for readers to gloat over the same?

An actually cathartic and nice scene would be the bullies realising they were in the wrong and apologizing to her after they realise what's wrong with what they are doing. There's a whole (pretty dark) manga on this theme.

Yes that, most of the chapters of this are already based around the bullies getting made fun of by Takada already.

@slypy Chad-kun is the final boss of social interactions.
@criver I don't wholly buy your "Chad MC acting as an adult" theory, nor the "innocence argument". Takada merely begins every engagement with the bullies with vastly different expectations and starting assumptions. While the bullies begin with the assumption that Nishimura is of low status, Takada holds her in high regard and doesn't see any reason to do otherwise. The bullies expect social pressure to produce conformity, while Takada is an outsider to the established social structure and is thus immunised against it. There is an element of innocence in Takada's behaviour, in that he doesn't recognise that the bullies are bullying, but that is somewhat plausible if we take his behaviour to be that of someone so self-assured and he assumes others to be the same. His innocence is then a product of projecting his self-confidence and openness onto others.

As mentioned, I simply cannot buy this (outside of fictional works) - there's a limit to how long you can be gullible while you have reality in front of you. On the other hand, this gimmick falls perfectly in line with the goal of the manga, so for me it's pretty clear why it is there, even if it is implausible.

@Darklight99 He's not making fun of them. He dismantles their antics in front of them - he's basically educating them.

@criver kids just endlessly positive. He takes nothing the bullies say in the way they mean it and interprets it in his own way. There's no theory in this, it's just a kid that doesn't see the bad side of being called a grim reaper that can curse objects and people cause he just thinks it's super cool and won't budge on that.

@redpandamaniacal It's not gaslighting since it means he's essentially manipulating the truth. He's just looking at everything from a different perspective than the bullies. It's hard to bully someone if there's literally always someone there that sees what you say as a good thing rather than a bad thing.

@slypy chad-kun is the one punch man of conversations.

Wait did he just casually admit he loved her? If the bullies spread that and the hand holding around the other girl might finally stop digging her own grave give up on him. Also loved the argument. Probably the best chapter to explain the premise of the series. Just the outsider mc not understanding the local social/cultural norms and casually/innocently defeating them with logic and actual common sense. I mean seriously, if they call him holding hands with the reaper “bragging” then how is it a punishment for them? At this point I’m pretty they’re all just awkward kids that don’t know how to interact with girls and using the “reaper” thing as an excuse to trivialize talking to a girl. This is basically screen rants pitch meetings (or similar satire comedy) in a middle school (or was it elementary? Can’t tell) setting. And honestly this is all it ever takes; just one person with basic common sense, decency, and logic that isn’t willing to be ignorant or scared of going against the mob ruling.
