Yeah they kept it for a while and then stopped too, but if I'm not wrong this is a quarterly manga, yet they're already in due time for more chapters.

The ending was not that bad IMO.
( the story is 60 chapters long for those who care to go look for it elsewhere )

It is a very open ending and they definitely could have kept the story going with more adventures.
But the story as a whole does get an okay ending with where MC ends up.
It also ends at the end of an arc that somewhat wraps up the whole story and MC is happy where he is.
So calling the ending axed is not very fair.

That MC is now a noble and owns the land next to the lake, he can settle down and live a quiet life next to the lakeside.
Which is what he wanted from the start so he is exactly where he wants to be and has good company.

With his status and connections ( not to mention the other hero from the bonus chapters )
As well as the other characters he meets along the way, nobody outside of maybe the other Empire's royalty is going to mess with him considering he is housing 2 members of the royal family and has a royal decree from the king.

the final arc at the palace even had some nice callbacks like the magic granny's daughter showing up in the magic duel and the bonus chapter introduceing the other hero.

Sure, it might not be a 10/10 ending...
But it is at least a 7/10 ending considering it wraps up MC´s journey and implies he settles down in a place he can call home.

which is why it only got a 7/10.
