This doesn't make any sense. If it's a competition between clans, although it's still retarded and not for the orthodox martial clans, I can understand. But competing between clan's members, battle royal style at that, is detrimental to the clan's future. It's like killing your future talents and making clan families hate each other, doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Maybe it's sorta works for demonic clans, as in making abducted kids fight to compensate for shitty lineages, but that's it.
