I keep forgetting she's an idol. Feels out of place for a middle schooler but considering how tall she is and how mature she is, I guess she can pull it off.

To clarify in case anyone is genuinely confused, she is not an idol, gravure or otherwise. She's a fashion model and has been trying to break into acting.

Not even that. Gravure would imply she's a provocative model for advertising purposes. They're not going to exploit a 14 year old girl like that. All her modeling work has been pretty tame and generic.

Like what @LemonLies said, she's just a fashion model trying to break into acting. She probably has no interest in the more sexy business of gravure idols, and I seriously doubt her parents would be okay with it. Shit, Mai Sakurajima from the Rascal Does Not Dream series nearly got into something tangential to that shit according to her backstory, if I recall, but she fought it so hard and is why a rift formed between her and her mother, who was her manager at the time.

I actually almost expected Anna's mom in this story to be like Mrs. Sakurajima, especially with how strict she felt during the parent-teacher meeting which was my first exposure to her in the anime, but then we saw more of her, and it was clear she wasn't nearly as pushy of a mother. Sanae Yamada is what Mrs. Sakurajima should have been like, if she was going to be a respectable mother.

Also, as for 'how mature she is' ... Anna is still pretty childish. The only reason one might think of her as mature is because Kyo thought of her as more mature than the rest of the class, but that's just his perception, and he's what's called an 'unreliable narrator'. You always have to look at things from his perspective when you read his narration.

Sure, she's one of the few students at the school with a real-world job, and she tries to be taken seriously in that world, but she's still a kid, ultimately. There's probably flavors of imposter syndrome going on with that.

I feel like it's highlighted through actual actions and dialog that Anna may look mature, but she is still a 14 year old girl that sometimes even acts younger than her age, sometimes acts older than it, but is always less mature than she looks. At least, probably until current chapters- one thing I'll note about this story, these characters grow and mature on you, and it'll take you by surprise if you're not paying attention.

Anyway... If anything, the real mature one seems to be Kyo himself, he just will never admit as he currently is.
