Re-read pages 8-12 and focus on Icchi's hairstyle progression (and Yamada's increasing fit of pique).
Ok, but first I'll Google those words...
I guess pique really is that uncommon of a word. I'm probably just used to it.

It's used in phrases like 'interest is piqued' - people ignorantly assume the phrase is 'interest is peaked' ... Like when you say someone or something has 'piqued your interest'.

So, maybe it's not that uncommon, people just don't realize they're using it and using the wrong word in the process when typing or writing it out.

Also not sure what one means by 'pages 8-12' when one of those pages is a piece of cover art. Even if we go by the numbering in the actual manga pages themselves, the last one for this chapter is numbered 10 between the upper-left and center-left panels.

Here's what Langeek has to say about the term in question:

What is the origin of the idiom "in a fit of pique" and when to use it?

The idiom "in a fit of pique" has its origins in French, where "pique" means "spite" or "resentment." The word "pique" itself comes from the Old French term "piquer," which translates to "to prick" or "to sting." This phrase captures a momentary and impulsive emotional reaction, often accompanied by a sense of indignation or resentment. It is typically used when someone reacts with sudden anger, annoyance, or irritation due to feeling offended, slighted, or having their pride wounded.
