this "'follow your heart' supportive parent" trope is the worst, second only to "mom hides it from dad." parenting failure. but they're already having her be a model and actress so this isn't any worse.

"'follow your heart' supportive parent" describes a widespread ideal of parenting that is in fact abusive, not supportive (especially for a daughter, and even more so when it's explicitly about boys)
Dude, you sound crazy😂. And you obviously don’t understand the definition of the word “abusive.”

I’m confused why you would even read this rom-com manga if you think this way much less read 95 chapters worth lmao.

You just really wanted to show off the parenting archetypes that you know as if it makes you look smart or righteous. It doesn't. Talking about "self destructive" desires in this case is an over-exaggeration and the mother still expresses interest in drawing the line by restricting some behaviors.

that said having your child become an actress is usually a red flag lol

Man I love the beginning of this chapter so much. It just feels so natural the way they talk at the beginning in Bathroom while Yamada is doing her thing and Ichikawa is brushing his teeth. Then the way she asks to call him something no one else calls him and then as they're leaving she asks if she can call him later. Idk that whole sequence just is really good to me.

it would be if it was forced upon her, but it's made clear that yamada enjoys her work and actively pursues it on her own volition

do what thou wilt is the whole of the law today, but back in reality, self-destructive behaviors do not cease to be self-destructive when they are freely chosen. (also, the free choices of the young remain heavily influenced by parental expectations)

a supportive parent doesn't neccesarily mean one that gives full unbridled aid towards every want, yamada's general good nature and the respectful playful relationship she has with her parents show that the freedom she has (be it with freedom of capital with her pretty hefty pocket money, or freedom of movement with going to shibuya on weekends to hang out, etc) isn't something born out of her parent's ignorance but from trust, that she's been taught to behave well and responsibly, her parents reprimand her for when she does break that trust such as when she sleeps over at ichikawa's without being completely truthful.

the choices of children are usually set by parents but to some extent isnt your whole being set by your surroundings? choice is always made by your own inclinations and those don't come from a vaccum.

girls must be warned and prevented from becoming actresses and models even more than they must be warned and prevented from touching a hot stove. failure to do those things may look like peaceful, healthy parenting right up until the consequences arrive.

Of what everyone else is saying, he even told the dad that she spent the night and he was right next to the mom when his mom spoke to her.
