Silverware is not exactly "living" conductor. Cloth was, at some point, but thick enough (like his town disguise from a while ago) blocks the curse as well.

In earlier chapters, it was said that the curse only affects to the level where body heat could be transferred. So a touch over light clothes activates it, while thicker cloth would prevent the activation, same as the glass panel kiss of a recent chapter.
