That guy is an idiot.
Make him your hubby shao!
Also, I can't really tell if this is supposed to be japan or china at this point considering the layout looks like the old Yamato dynasty prior to the expansion Into Kanto and thus the establishment of Kyoto, or if this is just meant to be a china analog. I'm assuming china despite the cultural crossover that was common in the heian period.
I think if it were China we would have seen a eunuch by now.
Also I'm not sure but I think the status divide between ladies-in-waiting and female servants is more of a Japanese thing?
Like if you divide women who come into the palace into 3 categories
1. Extremely noble women sent in by their extremely powerful families
2. Varying levels of noble women sent in by their families
3. Commoner girls (child labor is legal y'all) gathered from various places
Then in ancient China group 1 and 2 would both enter the palace as concubines, while group 3 would make up the bulk of
all female servants in the palace.
Whereas in ancient Japan I think(?) group 1 would enter as concubines, group 2 would enter as ladies-in-waiting, and group 3 would be lower ranking female servants.
