It truly is just a coincidence. I mean, having her look like the former empress does her more harm than good (since she will inevitably have a terrible first impression with the current empress but thankfully, our girl will fix that)
for Cardinal, someone corrected me last chapter that upon meeting each other for the first time last chap is when the Cardinal's obsession begins so this is not because Shuli looks like the empress.
For the duke, well technically, he has moved on to an extent since he isn't lusting on Shuli, just a soft spot.
For CP, its debatable too (I mean, sure a portion of his desire for Shuli is definitely because she looks like his mom no matter how much he denies it)

The empress is intriguing, but doesn't seem to have much respect for the emperor. Of course, with the dang church raising an army against the empire, she's probably not feeling too charitable towards her husband if he's not reigning those usurpers in.

All that pressure leaves no room for poor Nora to just be a normal teenager, his dad's under far too much stress. I really feel for his last statement, nobility is the worst place to grow up.

It's really just a coincidence that Shuli and the empress look alike. There is no familial connection. Their faces look alike, but their hair color and eye color are different (empress had purple hair and yellow eyes). Albrecht, the emperor both have a soft spot for Shuli because of her resemblence, which is why they helped her at the trial. Johannes did not love Shuli romantically.

The Cardinal fell in love with Shuli at first sight (remember that Shuli is very beautiful). He first saw her at her wedding with Johannes, when she was only 14. He tried to forget her, but every time he saw her, his feelings were reignited. He thinks she's a demon/devil for being able to affect him like this. More spoilers

After the first trial, when Shuli proves her chastity/virginity, he loses it and thinks she's a demon masquerading a something pure. He vows to either have her (by forcing her into the monastery), or to destroy/kill her.

I had thought the Cardinal falling in love with Shuli, at first sight, meant like in PRESENT TIMES! NOT YEARS AGO WHEN SHE JUST 14 ON HER FUCKING WEDDING DAY! Oh good lord. . . . ugh. . . . so vile! Major creepy vibes there! The man was practically lusting after a child! Eck. And the first trial proved her being a virgin how? I thought the trial she just went through was to somehow determine whether or not she was competent to truly lead the family until Jeremy came of age or was I wrong? I don't remember there being anything of the sort questioning her chastity? @_@;

And looks like I was right. I just had this gut feeling that maybe his feelings - besides the disgusting lustful overtones - had some underlying religious context to them. I'm having some major flashbacks to that demented priest from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame here. -___-;

The cardinal is either in his young 20s, OR, he became a cardinal in his young 20s. Couldn't tell which one from Google Translate. He's one creepy fucker, but probably not as old as the art would make you think (like 30 or 40??). Her chastity wasn't initially questioned, but Shuli made a gamble to cancel her marriage by proving her chastity. Women who don't have sexual relations with their husbands for 500 days can cancel the marriage. A priest checked her, and it was proven that she was a virgin. Her relationship with Jeremy improves because she was willing to do something humiliating for his sake, and her proven chastity makes the current empress like her.
