The emperor is acting on petty emotions. He felt insulted by a literal child, so he chose to punish someone who is loosely related to the child by two degrees of separation. He didn't chose to punish the child, or his brother, or his parents, but his own daughter, the fiance of the brother of the child. She has no responsibility for his actions, no authority or influence over him. She's not his mother or his etiquette teacher. She's not even officially married to his brother. The emperor acted like a spiteful child.

@Tabitha Probably. Not nicer, but more administratively effective. Note how the current emperor is letting the crown prince fool him with fake solutions to the empire's problems. Dowun would insist on being genuinely in charge, and he might sit still for corruption, but probably not corruption that weakens his empire.

@yungxishh He's not wrong. When you have a tool that can make more tools in a multitude of ways then that tool becomes the absolute best tool to have. Of course, when I say "tool" I don't just mean objects or more people. An opportunity is a tool, so is influence, and so is respect and fear.

Holy late to the bandwagon but my heart - I hope Dowun turns out to be a better guy so far. I understand his motives, but damn this is tough

i really hope he's not the male lead...he seems super sus. i'd be glad with little brother or crown prince's aide, this guy is a little kid and he's already so manipulative, plus he's just using her. idk, maybe he's just pretending and he's actually a good guy, but so far i don't like him

I never liked Dowun the moment he was introduced, and as much as I don't like his character, I rather he be upfront with her like this. He's not manipulative in the sense that he told her his intentions from the start. He could've pretended to like her, or spin a reason as to why his brother needed to do this, and she would've believed him without even questioning it. At least she's not getting tricked and he's not playing with her feelings.

I presume Dowun has been pressured by his father to regain their honor that he has not given a chance to develop genuine relationships with people.

I understand why the princess would feel that way since the she has never experienced a company around her age, it is undeniable that she would expect more "compassion" from him as what his brother treated her. Though, I am quite positive that there would be character development for Dowun in the future.

he's not bad, yet he's not good either... dowan is just too focused on power 😕
