Ok wait. I actually really don't understand the point of this time skip. Wouldn't it have been better to show us the Meek little princes getting sent off to the empire and watch her grow from that to this? Watch her become closer with the aristocrats in the empire and become beloved by them? To the point where there are rumors she might take the thrown? Especially because the only reason why she's progressed so much between chp 1-16 was because she had Dowun by her side and now she has to navigate important relations on her own. (Before the skip she still struggled with controlling her emotions)
I don't think it's fair to compare them but this is why Akatsuki no Yona works so well, we get to watch Yona's growth from a pampered princess to a badass archer. We get to see exactly how her connections with the different tribes will aid her and how much of a "threat" she is to So-won.
It just works better thematically.

I was thinking that ML was plotting a rebellion given that considering it was usually the firstborn legitimate son who inherited the throne and MC is 0/3.
