The king was on trial last chapter, where they presented proof he covered up the real hero and planned to have him killed.

When they confronted the former saintess is when they mentioned the prince would be sentenced to work in the mines as a slave.

Although this might have been more satisfying if the prince had been even more assholish like Shinji Matou from Fate who he shares the same hairstyle with.
