There isn't really an English established sound effect for this common Japanese sound effect. It's basically the sound of someone being surprised and doing a small hiccup I guess.
A stranger one is that Japanese has established sound effects for staring and smiling. I've no idea how to render that in English.

Many translations simply omit it and only leave the “!” for this reason rather than “Ghl!” which I think loses out on something. They might also use “gulp” or something similar.
