There isn't really an English established sound effect for this common Japanese sound effect. It's basically the sound of someone being surprised and doing a small hiccup I guess.I gotta ask, where's the "ghl!" outburst sound from? I assume it's some form of slang thing since the manga has a pretty casual tl (like everyone saying "man") but I don't think I've ever seen it before this manga, lmao.
Ah, gotcha. I know their love for strange onomatopoeia like staring/smiling, but I guess this is the first time I've seen this one tl'd this way. There isn't really an English established sound effect for this common Japanese sound effect. A stranger one is that Japanese has established sound effects for staring and smiling. I've no idea how to render that in English.
Many translations simply omit it and only leave the “!” for this reason rather than “Ghl!” which I think loses out on something. They might also use “gulp” or something similar.Ah, gotcha.
