Rintaro is observant, but not particularly good at remembering things. So this forgetfulness happened to everyone around him, it's just a flaw of his. Well he's far from being a perfect gary stu MC, that's for sure.
Kaoruko is happy and relieved because it turns out, that's just the way Rintaro is, and not because she's forgettable to him. This might become a future source of conflict in their budding relationship, but I trust them to be able to talk things out.
