Why would you send the incompetent to get the guy back he ran off? He's multiple times shown a dangerous level of incompetence that has resulted in injury and financial loss. This be some naff writing yo.

Nothing more appealing than the CEO getting your division director, the one that fired you, to find you and beg you to return with a bigger budget and salary. He's banking on MC to still be out of a job and to be petty and desperate enough to come back to work with the upper hand, no matter how negligible it is.

Because inter-corporate politics. If someone has enough connections they get away with a lot of incompetence and maliciousness. It's unfortunately realistic in many corporations or governments.

It was pointed out that the boss in question is another incompetent that has his job just because of connections, so him making bad decisions is to be expected.

Rihalzam: "War hero knight he said. Just a country bumpkin. Why does he want to save face so much against some poor new lord of a remote region?"
Hey now, she has to be at least a 9th level Fighter to attract followers, clear a domain, and get the 'lord' title. Name-level characters shouldn't be easily dismissed like that, especially ones with at least 50 hit points.
