Pretty much any manga released in partial chapters was released this way by the publishers. Mostly it happens in adaptations of other works, where chapter numbers mirror chapter numbers of the original work, but adaptation constraints do not allow them to fit a whole novel chapter into one manga chapter.

Adding onto the other comments, MD doesn't allow TLs to split chapters unless the original publication was that way. So if you see it split, it's almost certainly the publisher's fault.

Split chapters are from online (rather than magazine) serialisations and are nothing to do with the source material, it’s simply seen by publishers as the ideal length to drive engagement with people reading on mobiles and while commuting etc.
