YOU have the game-mechanics body, not OTHERS, so just assuming that "wall-hitting" will help you, a thing that only ever appears in old or poorly made games, is really dumb. Willingly running into a narrow dead-end alley is dumb as well. Zombies are slow, you just negated your biggest advantage over them by putting yourself into a spot where they can easily cut off your escape route and overpower you with numbers.
