I hope the next chapter is them awkwardly trying to figure out if they are girlfriends or not or something. Like they've been putting off having the conversation since prom and haven't really put it into words yet because they're both awkward disasters.

I think she just has a nice mom who has allowed her kid to be herself all along. Remember Aya is already a subculture kid with dyed hair etc and there's never been any family drama shown about that. They also let her go to an overnight rock festival. They don't seem strict about who their kid is.

Is it just me or is the art a bit off in this chapter?

While most manga has style drift that just happens when it's been going on for several years, in this case the character design changes to me feel more like showing the characters are older. They're both 18 now I think and almost to graduation so there's been less chubby cheeks and more longer faces. It's been more apparent over the last volume there's been a gradual changes towards this.
