I speculated whether Mitsuki had gotten to accept herself in light of her friends (Aya, specifically) loving her for all of who she is, or maybe she was just unhealthily coping and the situation would eventually blow on her face...

Glad to see it was the former!

As others have said, it might be too soon for Mitsuki to make the jump into full romance....

But consider the state of things right now. She wrote a whole ass love song based on Aya's off-handed comment. And it got plastered on the whiteboard for her to see. Even if she didn't have enough time to read and understand the lyrics in the split second it took her to go feral, Aya definitely caught on the song's title (Heck, I would bet anything that this added even more fuel to her rage, for it wasn't just a song that Mitsuki made, but one made for her).
Aya is pretty sure on how she feels about Mitsuki. Mitsuki knows how she feels about Aya. And now Aya KNOWS, at least in part, how Mitsuki feels for her.
The cat's out of the bag. Now they just need to act on it.

(Placing bets on the actual confession involving Mitsuki singing the song to Aya)

please change that to “blow up in her face”.
The way it is sound weird and… probably inaccurate 😝

Also, I’m pretty sure she ran to the bathroom to barf and I doubt Aya was the one to stay behind to erase it.

Are you re-fucking-tarded ?
I'm telling myself that this comic has people who speak different languages, or who speak English from countries with varried culture, but in American and British English, this is a slur.

edit

you were responding to someone with an immature take, but so far this comic is pretty all-ages. They could be a naive adult, but they could also be a 12 year old. try responding to the substance with substantive objections, not profanity.

“When you’ve been hurt, it’s okay to be angry”

No no no no no no it’s not okay. That is called Emotional Reasoning and it’s a well known Cognitive Distortion (well pre-tik tok it was)

And I know, in 2024 it’s probably not going to be well received. I know lots of people want to say “oh but it’s justified anger! They wanted to hurt me!”… fuck social mediaI
I agree partially. I think it's OK to be angry, the problem is when you hurt people around you. It's about how you act, not react. I do think it's been normalized to take "revenge" as a means to get back at people who hurt you cuz "they asked for it" but that just brings more problems. Anger is an emotion, and it's just as important as any other.

Also, people, don't get triggered, this is probably someone that's trying to get a reaction out of you.

A.) that isn't what a slur is

as they didn't insult a specific group of people, but instead used it as a generic derogatory insult much in the same way idiot, moron, stupid, slow in the head, etc are (all of which come from the same origin as retarded (which itself means slow(ed))

B.) it's less of an insult as the d slur (which lesbians use quite frequently amongst one another), the f slur (which gay men often use amongst one another), the n slur (which black united statesians specifically use amongst one another for some ungodly reason), all of which target specific groups and as such are, by definition, slurs and not generalised insults. You know what it is comparable to and even less insulting than what they said; yet, no one makes a fuss about it?

all of which are extremely common insults on the internet and in real life amongst younger generations and are borderline slurs given the actual insult (I presume) is to compare someone to the sterotypical traits of an autistic person. Yet all of these are defended tooth and nail as not being slurs (though some people on twitter now consider them slurs and say "neurodivergent" is the proper term so take that as you will), due to both it having different definition that is not a slur to which retarded also has two of:
  1. a generalised insult that is synonymous with idiot, moron, simpleton, stupid, etc
  2. the original meaning of being slow (flame retarded is still a word used today to refer to things that have traits that slow down flames in this case)
and it having a historical usage as a slur. Yet as I stated before the d slur is still used, the f slur is still used, and the n slur (by black united statesians specifically) is still used all by the people who are beging targetted by the slur itself making them hipocrites at best since no one should be allowed to use these types of slurs outside historical contexts where the slur's use is being explained to an audience and why it's a slur in the first place otherwise it's no longer a slur: it's just regional slang. The whole point of a slur is to be an extremely offencive, derogatory, and socially unacceptable to use word. If you use it you should be socially punished (i.e. shunned for being racist).
All of that was referring to historical uses as a slur as well. All three of the words above there are actively used widely today and debately should be considered slurs (like said some groups on twitter consider it one already) yet most people would not consider it as anything more than gen z/gen α slang comparable to other generalised insults directed at one's intelligence. So either all insults that specifically have historical and modern use of targetting groups based on their mental and/nor neurological illness should be considered a slur no matter how generalised it is and as such ignore the definition of what a slur is, or none of them should be considered a slur unless they actively meet the definition of what a slur is.

this isn't true.

It's exclusive to the USA and nowhere else. Some people outside the USA may see it like this, but that is exclusively from being entrenched in USA's culture online. They would be the vast minority, and by no means indicative of what is considered a more or taboo. An example of this would be the word "cunt" is used extremely commonly here in english, yet in the USA it is considered a really profane word. That doesn't mean there isn't united statesians who don't use it, but they are very much aware it's considered a profane word that can easily cause backlash unlike in large parts of the english speaking world and as such is considered a more to say it in the USA

Don't be an asshole.

Retarded is an ableist slur. No one should say it.

All this worthless bullshit you typed is just blowing smoke.

What you are doing here is waving your privilege flag proudly.

Being neurodivergent and struggling with undiagnosed autism for half my life is privledged? Learn something new everyday eh

I'm also autistic, diagnosed at 40. So shove the pity party up your ass and give it a little tickle.

Being disadvantaged in one way DOES NOT MEAN YOU DON'T HAVE PRIVILEGE.

Asshole.
that is not what privledged means and we both know it. By that logic you are saying american black people are privledged simply because african black people are worse off than they are, and last I checked no one who was not trying to make an insane strawman would ever try and argue that to be even close to the case. You do not know the slightest thing I've been through or any of the suffering I face or have faced. So how about instead of throwing a tantrum you learn to realise not everyone is you or gone through your experiences and as such has different views on the world. Even other neurodivergent people. I find the word "queer" to still be a slur and extremely uncomfortable to be called it, but does that give me the right to police what every single person in the rainbow crew is allowed to say simply because I do not find it comfortable? Not in the slightest since it is none of my business what other people want to identify as. I have called myself retarded since I was little back before I knew any other word for it since I did not even learn the term neurodiverent until 2022. To me it is no different from the word "gay" which growing up was a huge insult to be called, but also what us non-straight people called ourselves anyway since whether it was an insult or a source of pride completely depended on context. Are you going to really say I am not allowed to identify myself as what I want to be identified as simply because you don't want to be identified that way when no one ever said you had to?

Being angry and acting on it in harmful or destructive ways are very different things. The latter is bad, sure. but the former is perfectly natural. In fact, it's unhealthy to suppress too many emotions.

heyy lemme say something real quick.
the reason "autistic" isn't a slur is because that's not what the word is for. for something to be a slur, it needs to have the sole purpose of only being derogatory. meanwhile, "autistic" is an actual fucking diagnosis (which i have) that people misuse because they're disgusting pieces of shit who view autistic people as stupid and inhuman.

meanwhile, "retarded" may have used to be a diagnosis, but it is not anymore. as it stands, it is exclusively used as an insult, while also being synonymous with "mentally disabled." so i think you can see how that would piss off a lot of disabled people, like myself.
so while i don't really care to debate if it technically fits the textbook definition of a slur, personally, i just think using a word synonymous with mental disability as an insult is dumb and bad no matter what. it's a symptom of people's undying hatred for the disabled, which in my opinion, shouldn't be upheld

ramble over, autistic bitch OUT!!
