I assume that the magistrate is referring to the Heavenly Dao as 公子 when be says Prince. Wellll..... while technically 公子 does mean prince especially in historical context, it was also used to refer to esteemed persons, often of nobility. This usage is more likely the case given that the magistrate himself is a person of official status.

Well, "Prince" also meant "esteemed person" or "supreme person/leader" at some point.
