But that's ok, this isn't about him. He's ultimately just a a minor hindrance. The kids are the one who actually matters, and they're all great.

I originally wanted to comment "Still shitty parents", but I realized I don't care about the mother enough to make comment about her.

As for the reason, well, the dad doesn't get to assume and force MC to make decision about his life, if he has never been involved in MC life in the first place!

The closest situation to this that I can think on the spot right now is: A relative whom you've barely seen suddenly appear and tell you how you should live your life.

That is literally the situation, but there are two things that make it worse:
1. That is not MC relative, that is his dad, well step-dad I guess, but my point still stand, him being MC's parent make how he has been acting so much worse.
2. He is not just telling MC how he should live his life, he is actively forcing MC to do something while A. not considering MC's thought and feeling. And B. he still has never been in MC life, so who give him the right to interfere now?

Not just MC, we literally see in this chapter that he has also never been around for HIS OWN CHILDREN.

I also hate that instead of comparing his grades and concentrating on the subjects step-son did worse, he immediately turns it into rat race with boy's peers. "How will you go to a good college and get a well-paid job (that you will prioritize over your kids, you can always get a babysitter for them) if you're not better than 2/3 of other teenagers of your age?" It's not like other kids can't also get better grades, maybe they got similar lecture from their parents, or their home situation got better, so it will be his fault if they also get better grades and won't get overtaken?

Now i see lot of ppl calling them shitty parents. Now they to some extent definitely aren’t the „best parents“ in the way the dad for example wasn’t there for his children when they were lonely and the children used to being alone and ppl leaving but you don’t know why he is solo parenting? What if his wife died and he needs money to provide for the kids put food on the table, rent, clothes he can’t just not work. But with both families comming together, the MC and his mom, stepdad and children they should be able to provide financially for the kids while also taking care of them without both working like slaves tbh.

Mom is shitty, too, yes, but dad is especially so. As I said in the previous chapter, he essentially alluded to the twins being a burden the MC when he loves and cares about them more than anything or anyone. Absenteeism is one thing, but to make such a gross assumption about his family when he's never around to know anything about them? He's a shitty dad.

If parts of MC's life are being neglected because he spends all his time caring for the kids, then in that sense caring for them has become a burden on his life and steps need to be taken to help alleviate that burden. The point of the challenge the dad devised, even if it was a pretty stupid premise for a challenge imo, was to prove that MC could actually juggle caring for the kids and his job, ie being a student, at the same time. If he couldn't, then it's the parents responsibility to step in and ease the pressure on him so he can get the chance to learn how to juggle those things or he'll never survive as an adult

When I was around the twins' age, my mom knew if I tried to take a nap around 4 that it would absolutely ruin my 8-8:30 bedtime. So she'd plunk me down in the tub and splash me with warm water to wake me back up... Which surprisingly did the trick.

I saw that and thought for sure "It's just using the year the LN source started;" but no -- it's both an original work as well as the mangaka's debut work. The best guess I have at this point is maybe that's when they initially started the story for it, so it was just kind of a hold over. But I'll readily admit that that's fairly flimsy as far as reasoning goes.

But in looking to see what other related works there might be listed on Amazon, I did come across the cover art for volume 3, set to release in mid-April:
