It's indeed the best thing they could do to not engage in any dicussions with that psycho Long. The man is a murderous manipulator, who's trying to maintain the appearance of a person relying on intelligence. So, if you keep doing things that aren't going according to his plans at all, it will throw him off more than anything else.
