The dad don't need to fear for his life at least, the mom knows that will never finds another man capable to handle herself, probally she was just thinking of brutally kill the other woman in front him to prevent others affairs

I guess "groggy" is kind of a similar idea, but definitely no verb equivalent ("I groggied and poured juice into my cereal instead of milk").
