We're also only on chapter 5 of 57, so unless the next 52 chapters are just him making breakfast with his sword I am hoping that SOMETHING happens between now and then.

of course something happens between now and the time he serves that breakfast with his sword. For example, they need to find eggs from a giant heavenly demon king bird god, and then get some bacon from the heavenly demon king boar dragon. Lets not forget the orange juice plucked directly from the heavenly demon king orange tree of Yggdrasil.
