It's not so much that the author actually cares about the idea of the library itself and more so that this is supposed to be a cautionary tale for anyone looking to read to find the answers to happiness in life. They're saying it's a misguided goal, and one may find themselves "drowning in the sea of print" for life if they try. Readers like these surely do experience a metaphorical Library of Babel when they go into books, especially the trashy self-help ones... It's important to keep in mind nothing is made to directly help or resonate with you—it'd be impossible to do because you are unique and ultimately the only one who can understand yourself. If it ever does though, celebrate it as the serendipitous moment it is, and if it doesn't, you gain an understanding of someone that's not you, and/or the mechanisms of the wider world around you.
