one part of the soldiers wanted to get the dead they wished before the end of the war, the other wishes for strongest people, they battle was always one were losing was permitted for them, and prolly we get some mental shenanigans made by the fox lady to made those people think like this. Sadly she's getting her family eradicated for not being wise enough to wait until the literal nuke arrived in that land.

Dude's basically an unsympathetic Ginko from Isekai Samurai. Not only does he want to die in battle, he wants everyone else to live/die that way as well, and is willing to drag everyone else into his own mess.

Hell, in a setting like this, just go become an adventurer and make a name for yourself on the battlefield as an example for others. There are tons of ways to show off the "strength is everything" philosophy that doesn't involve dragging a whole country into your elaborate plan for suicide.
