Dad is trying to talk to girlfriend to fix rumors and doesn't want to talk about dead wife. Is going through a midlife crisis

Daughter is trying to keep the fact she's a lesbian a secret and thinks girlfriend is two-timing. She doesn't know that dead mom was an author.

Nobody tells anyone anything... and now daughter is at the bottom of a flight of stairs and dad is probably having a heart attack.

I'm surprised at how it escalated in this chapter, I kinda get the daughter running away since she wasn't ready but why is the professor so shocked he can't move? Idk it doesn't feel very genuine.
