@Amoreryo Okay, so when I re-read it is seems he was talking about when he first married the queen. Back then the Emperor was still just one of many princes not the Emperor yet. He was reminiscing at what a sweet young thing she was they first met and he told he would make her his queen (as in he was pursuing the throne she would be his number wife) This made her understandable excited and nervous, palace politics, the weight of being the empress etc. etc. He gave her the jade bracelet as token of his love and pledge to protect her (or if you want to be cynical, gave her a pretty bauble and told her not to worry her pretty head)
@babyroxasman I agree, the old Empress was probably sick of him sexing up more women than a man whore in a male brothel, being too busy with work to come to see her, and letting her down in his promise to protect her. That bracelet is probably not only worth a fortune but symbolic of the love between them.
@KY_1124 It's really hard to like historic males in a patriarchy. What is normal upright behavior to them, is the worst slag male behavior by modern standards. You just have to roll with it as part of the story. But it really lowers the bar on what makes a good man.
