One story ends, another continues apace.

Ch 20 p 16 p 3: “know” appears to be missing in that sentence

Bothered is putting it mildly. In her perception his behaviour was less teasing and more bullying-like. It’s part of why she’s so annoyed with the whole ‘it’s a joke’ excuse/dismissal of behaviours she was the victim of. From the outside it was—possibly romantic—teasing, but from her point of view he was constantly intruding in her personal space, dismissive or ignorant of her discomfort, and hurtful in his comments.

It’s complex, suffice it to say.

Either she's gonna snap and tell him off/slap him or just coldly reject him (tho sometimes 'snapping' would make ppl double down on treating you the same way b/c they find it 'amusing' XP), tho idk if he's heard about her 'reputation' at this point but i assume miki would be outspoken about it if it's like "cut it out, you're being annoying/not an elementary schooler anymore"

LOL i think it's only 'romantic' teasing if it's a back and forth, otherwise it just comes off as douchey (though you'd think ppl would move on from "teasing the boy/girl you like" and actually treating with respect but i guess even if more ppl are able to do it in their 20s, maybe some younger kids would have some 'instinct' to act out in certain ways, tho hopefully he'd actually be respectful and keep his distance/boundary unless the plot just pushes them into being friends

Or he actually self reflected and like "Why did i do that?" and ask her "don't tell anyone what i was like back then" if he does find another girl he's interested in

Good point all around. What I still want to add is that people age and mature at different rates, in a way. They may have been all the same grade, but could have almost a year age difference (one born April one year the other March of the next could lead to them being in the same grade despite being effective a year apart, in Japan the cutoff date for a grade is Mar 31). And this is just physiological maturity. Mental and psychological is related to that, of course, but doesn’t overlap 1:1. In their twenties they’d have the same maturity, but before that then, particularly during puberty, where one spends a lot of time in their own head and trying to figure oneself out, and how one differs to and relates with others, the maturity gap can be quite big. And that doesn’t even go into the different speeds the sexes mature at…
So yeah. He might be, likely is, a different and more mature person than he was in middle school. The question is, did he reflect on this, or falls he back into the trap of well-worn behavioural grooves when the two meet.

I for one am looking forward to this.

I'm all for personal growth and such, but at the same time i'd wanna be petty and hope she bitch-slaps him at least once since you can 'get away' with that as a teen or so/get away with a slap on a wrist /chalk it up to a juvenile 'fight 'as opposed to if a male student hit a female one

(and lol i don't know how many 20 year olds were really all that 'mature' other than the ones who had to grow up faster/live on their own versus the stereotypical "freedom/no parental supervision for the first time so getting drunk and party and making dumb mistakes" but might as well 'get it outta your system' while you're young /within reason as long as you don't do anything that'd get you arrested or an accidental pregnancy b/c of a hookup)

Lmao imagine if they accidentally made more drama and like "oh he basically harassed me during class" and it got overheard/misconstrued to where he did something 'worse' than the 'teasing' (which was still douchey behavior but nothing that'd like be as bad if she basically shouted out "stay away from me you molester" in a huge crowd or so [because if this was a diff kinda story i can imagine some one making that as a rumor on purpose to ruin a male student's life])

I’m not trying to excuse whatshisface, just trying to play devils advocate, in a way, since much of his behaviour can be sufficiently explained by him being immature in the ways he convesy his crush, and her therefore not getting his message at all. Basically miscommunication, which is, as always, a great fount of drama.
