How can a mother can't recognize her child, she didn't realize she isn't her daughter. But then again when you think about it, actually she is so pitiful, had to abandon her own child, lost her family (brother and children), can't decide anything because of the damn royalty...

My guess is that she hasn’t seen her daughter since she was a toddler. I think it’s quite possible that she wouldn’t recognize her own daughter. People are saying that a mother should recognize her own child, if she probably hasn't spent time with her for several years then she wouldn’t know what personality traits she’s missing or anything new. Think about it, in the past babies were swiped at birth or some taken before they started putting ankle monitors on them. You could take the wrong baby home and raise that child for years w/o knowing.

At this moment I’m also guessing that the Emperor is a bastard. I figured that much when he said the emperor would pretty much like her appearance. Also, that snippet of that guy’s lower face, he may be the Emperor. So it was probably the Emperor who orchestrated the princess’ assassination because he probably viewed her as a disgrace. It would be really sick if he was responsible for the death of his son (a perfectly good heir) and Empress’ brother. Which is why I’m trying to wrap my head around the generations of incest stuff. It’d be interesting if the incest resulted in an Emperor who was mentally ill.

Or maybe it’s someone else.

@Berdy not toddler but more like 5 yo. Well she may either instantly tell this is not her daughter or she may believe it is her daughter, but that will not have anything to do with the truth.

It looks like abandoning her daughter was emotionally challenging for her, so it will be no wonder if she wants to torment herself by saying "it's not my child, where is my child!" even if it would be her own daughter (just doing better than before), or if she believes it is her daughter to try and convince herself, to keep somehow sane mind, that her daughter is alive and healthy.

The truth doesn't matter here. What matters is the mind of the one willing to believe in it.
