it explained in the novel that when the emperor brought gym's mother in the palace, she's already pregnant of her. the emperor is desperate for her mother so he decided to accept her cus her mother threats him with her own life if gym is gone. you should read the novel though. it's more crystal clear and detailed than the manhua

In the Novel, Gong Jue and Gong Yimo are supposed to be 9 and 10 years old respectively in this scene. They look so old here lol
