Can’t we ever get one of these power fantasies that isn’t so edgy? It’s like the authors go out of their way to just do the most messed up things in the story for shock value or whatever.

They usually have a protagonist who’s a total asshole. Also, the protagonist will be surrounded by cartoonishly evil people and allies who act like cheerleaders. Seriously, why is every character in these stories either a puppy kicker or a puppy? Being a heartless bastard isn’t cool or interesting.
