This has so much old old old Japanese folklore it’s kinda hard for Westerners to get the full thing... I know weather girls are a thing (thanks Weathering with You), I know human sacrifice was a thing, the weird crawling is a huge Japanese trope, as are those masks, and weird rituals. The time loop thing is kinda cross cultural... but omg this is like the most thrown I’ve been in a plot twist since the scene in Your Name when he finally gets to her village and comes over the mountain to look down at the lake...
