Like obviously the manga is going for a bit of a mystery box thing with the roles and tasks and such, but this is the first chapter that really confused me.

Why is it villainess-like to offer help and then realise you could use some too? It feels like such a stretch in logic. Genuinely a bit baffled.

I made a joke about this series being like Danganronpa with its SHSL thing, but it's harder to accept that the characters would make judgements based on the roles assigned since they aren't entrenched within the greater culture of the setting, and as such the base premise of the series is harder to buy into.

I guess what I'm saying is that I hope Takizawa's reticence to interact with Hanako actually gets justified by her task rather than her perception of Hanako's role.

Takizawa has trust issues and can't handle being mutually used yet. Usually someone proud and wary of support doesn't want to feel like they're being objectified in a trade any more than they want pity. Giving in can feel like betraying one's desire for genuine empathy and becoming at the mercy of the other person. Of course she's blind to Hanako being a cinnamon roll, but fear turning into a feeling of being insulted and further turning into anger will look petty in any conversation. Prickly indeed.

Her loss. I assume her task was to make someone hers, since those words were totally out of her comfort zone. At this rate her and Hanako will end up paired with other people.

Our MC can turn into Sonic the Hedgehog when she encounters a bug and the art is lovely so maybe this manga isn't so bad.

Something still feels empty though, like Sasuke forgot to add an ingredient (or several) to this slapstick melancholy stew. This concept could be taken in much weirder and hilarious directions and its pretty disappointing how little mileage this manga has gotten out of it in just 4 chapters. Hopefully its just taking its time to get there, I'll keep waiting for now. I may also be comparing it unfavorably to Oddman 11 after reading that recently on a recommendation from a commenter in a previous chapter.

Yeah I guess I understand that's what's intending to be conveyed, I guess my criticism is in that I don't think the manga is portraying someone with trust issues very well? I think you're basically right in everything you said about the characters, but I can't help but feel that they oscillate pretty wildly between somewhat interesting depiction and completely contrived.

Maybe I'm just too in my own head about this  okay yuri manga 🤔

We don't know but Takizawa's role could be Tsundere for all we know!
I think it is a trust issue thing when Hanako revealed she needed help too that recontextualises her heartfelt offer of help with an ulterior motive. Given she's the Femme Fatale too, it's a safe bet that Hanako's task has got something to do with seduction. Takizawa's might be to reject someone making their tasks incompatible. Or to break someone's heart which she doesn't want to do to Hanako because she is catching feelings has just become friends with her.

I guess the manga isn't at the stage of "portraying someone" since we see it from Hanako's POV? So, the "understanding" section will be shown later.

Finding myself quiet confused by the story so far and I'm wondering if it's not partially to do with the translation. Not that I think the translation team is at fault or anything, just that maybe I'm associating the word "villainess" with certain things that don't apply to how it's been used in this series.

When I think of a villainess I think of the way otome isekai stories tend to use the term. The character who heavily bullies the heroine (or at least is meant to in the "original" plot before the MC isekais). And that certainly doesn't seem to describe the MC of this or anything she's done.

Further the title says femme fetale, and I'd consider a femme fatale and a villainess different type of characters. Which again makes me wonder if I'm misinterpreting what the usage of the term villainess is meant to mean here. Not that femme fatale fits the character either.

And the characters responses to the MC are just bizarre. Like this chapter. Or previous when the whole class called her a villainess and acted shocked just because she asked to be someone's friend. And why would the school decide to give her the villainess role if what she wanted was to make friends? Heck, the school only taking in orphan girls and then making their lives miserable by forcing them to live out a specific role or else get expelled is just weird in the first place.

I guess it's supposed to be an over the top premise to fit a comedy series, but so far I don't feel like the story is being comedy enough to fit it. It feels like it's taking itself rather seriously and it's honestly making it a bit frustrating to read. I feel bad for the MC. She's just an orphan girl who wants to make friends but she suddenly finds herself in wonderland. It sort of reminds me of that Adam Sandler movie Anger Management, where a regular person who's not in on the joke has to deal with a bunch of people acting inexplicably crazy then treating him like he's the crazy one for having normal reactions to things.

I'll still stick with it though since I liked False Marigold. And hopefully this one doesn't get cancelled like the author's other works.

Im so excited for this series. There's too little info to make any judgements but I am loving the mystery. Came for the yuri and I hope to the goddess above I'll stay for it. I also love this little hedgehog and her prickly personality. This situation is messed up!

Man im really wondering what Takizawa's role is.

Also, with the gyaru girl, her role was maiden, which is like the opposite of the villainess role, so Im guessing shes avoiding mc cause she was given instructions to?
