@seekermoc,
@boag: Just because there are also valid reasons for the other side, this doesn't make the obvious untrue. They clearly took advantage of her (so far we're still good), but as for her payment, she was clearly scammed. Even if they themself truly believe it was the right amount to pay her, she still got the shorter end of the stick.
She created some national (or even world) treasure class artefacts and they paid her off with her initial work. I firmly believe, if they would have hired an enchanter, who would have done the same, they would have paid her/him quite a hefty sum, surpassing the value of that small gem they gave to her. Japp, I'm just taking the price of the gem itself into consideration. That gem+enchantment isn't shabby or something, but she can create those artefacts herself, so they aren't as valuable to her, than to everyone else.
The only thing she doesn't have access to, are those gems themselves. Giving her a bigger one (not as big as the last one), so she may enchant it herself, would have been a fair payment. I guess they aren't easy to come by, but still enchanting them comes with a risk it seems and she mass manufactured them. So give her one! They could have even appraised it later, to see what she came up with on herself and learn something from it.
Also: The first gem broke, because she clearly poured too much energy into it. Therefore it was a risk worthy taking for that...that thief!
Apprentice: "Sir, I will inform the King at one those wondrous events."
Master Enchanter (Megane Sephiroth): "Wait, I will inform the King. I want you to go the armourers."
Ap: "Sir?"
ME: "Tell they to craft an full body suite with a socket for a 1.2cm gem.
Ap: "...?"
ME: "Also two sockets for 6mm gems, five 5mm sockets, and in each palm of the gloves and soles of the boots one heat resistance 3mm socket."
Ap: "... Are those for these custom made "repulsor" and "jet" magic gems?
ME: "You are quite curious, aren't you? HURRY! It's for the King and kingdom!"
Ap: "I'm on my way, Sir."
ME *yelling down the hallway*: "Also make the suite my size and paint it red and gold!"
