hahaha if anyones worried about the gap in chapters, read the TL note.
I wouldn't say worried but definitely confused lol. Thought you might've taken the same drug publishers have where they'll upload a few chapters and then skip a dozen or two like it's no big deal

I saw it a few months ago with Hanging Out With a Gamer Girl. The translation team stopped translating for a while, then someone (from the same team?) picked it back up and translated one chapter way further onwards. Then it was picked back up, with the (new?) translation group posting the missing ones and eventually catching up to the raws not long ago.

I don't like what they've done with Jiwon. She was an unlikeable asshole who deliberately played with the feelings of boys and targeted Kiryong just for amusement, personal satisfaction, and a bet. That's how she was introduced before she got taken down by Jae-Kyung.

Then, ever since that one stalker/creep arc (bad arc, by the way), she has done an almost 180 degree turn in an effort by the author to make her more likeable and a potential live interest. She's given excuse after excuse and then chance after chance to just be a more appealing character when it doesn't actually fit the writing. It's bad writing.

The "stalker" arc was simply disgusting. This author is a bigger creep than he tried to make that poor guy out to be.
But he made Jiwon cry, so now I feel sorry for her.
I wonder what her friend's deal is though. She's just hanging out with her during breaks and filling her mind with all kinds of ideas

The stalker arc was trash for sure.

People aren't assholes for no reason though. Usually people are assholes because at some point, someone harmed them. The shitty and very real thing about trauma is that traumatized people tend to continue to act out their trauma. Sort of like the kid who gets beaten by his dad, then grows up to beat his own kids.

So I disagree, it's not bad writing. People are complicated and are hard to categorize neatly into good and bad boxes.

Generally speaking, the people who tend to have that kind of black and white thinking are reflecting some trauma of their own back onto the world.

The stalker arc was crap exactly because it was shallow and black and white.

I can agree with everything you said but still say it's bad writing.

Writing isn't necessarily reflective of the real world. At the very least, for the simple fact that writing has to have a beginning and an end. You can't realistically fit everything about a [fictional] world into a story because that's just not possible.

Additionally, stories are different insofar as the author makes conscious decisions for character development or the lack thereof.

As an aside, some people are just assholes. That is still true. I am labeling this an aside because it doesn't really matter much for this post.

The stalker arc was crap because it was shallow. I agree. But the author made a decision to not give the stalker any opportunity to redeem himself. Meanwhile, Jiwon is highlighted and spotlighted just to do that. The author made a conscious decision.

So even if I do agree with everything you said, that people aren't assholes for no reason as well as all your other points, that doesn't make it a good story.

I would argue that accurately capturing some fundamental essence of human nature and/or reality is the fundamental basis of good writing. The richness of life is expressed through it's very complexity and nuance, and art is improved by embracing and depicting that.

Try to compare og 1962 Spider Man and Miles Morales as Spider Man. It's not even close. Miles is a better more interesting character by every possible metric, because he is way more complex and lives in a more nuanced world.

So yeah writing isn't necessarily reflective of the real world, but that is the absolute measure of weather writing is good or not.

This isn't great writing, but it's way better than what you are asking for. A 2d character you can continue to hate.
