Ok, everything pointed toward the 2nd flag bearer/child, but imagine if the true mastermind was someone not from the family though. This got to be one of the best way to force them to start infighting. One side is emotional & ready to burn the world (& have the power to do so), the other set plans & traps ready for ages.
