They are now looking at the power couplings that had been rebuilt after the human team dismantled them. The guy puling the cover off of one device is being very careless. He's assuming the device and its wiring are built 'up to code' with safety in mind. When we build such things, there are regulations and common sense followed in order to ensure that the housing is not accidentally energized when you unbolt it and take it off. But the computer may not adhere to such considerations. It might build the device within machine-like tolerances, assuming that the drones will pull the housing off in perfect alignment with the wiring inside. So when a human unbolts it and pulls it off, they will likely pull it out of alignment, and the metal housing will come in contact with wire splices or other connectors that may be carrying a lot of power. To the computer system, this is irrelevant, but to a team of humans, the misalignment is almost inevitable and deadly. This could act as an accidental 'defensive system' against human tampering.

In truth, I figured that a makeshift power coupling would have been made by simply having a series of drones clamp 'arms' to each other in a chain, and one drone would then clamp itself onto a power conduit. The drone on the other end would clamp onto the fusion reactor's power output somewhere. The series of drones would become a conduit for power, with the arms fusing together by heat generated by the power going through them, and the control circuits and other components of the drones would be fried. It would be just enough to work, without having to fabricate a lot of parts.

Experiments with 'intelligent' circuits have resulted in some odd and frightening results. In one case, a cutoff between two circuits was overcome by the computer relying on inadvertent radio-frequency emissions by the circuits for inter-component communications. It was modulating the power going to certain components to generate the radio signals to send pulses that would be received by other components. Normally such RF noise would be ignored, but the experimental system learned to take advantage of them. The system in this manga is using very conventional methods to circumvent the actions of the human experimenters, possibly because it has autonomous control over physical drones, and access to stores of warehoused components to draw upon. But if those were removed, it could even get past that constraint using very unconventional, and unanticipated, techniques.
