In the WN, iirc, the MC doesn't save him but instead steals the bag so that the bully doesn't take, seemingly at the man's request. Changing him into someone benevolent really doesn't fit someone requested to assassinate a count (and other things that happened), but I haven't read the light novel version so I don't know if they changed any of that.

What happens when the story hits you in the face with a bucket of story. So much got dumped in like 10 pages that there is just no way to get hooked into it.

MC's face on pg 18 getting Roland's life story jammed into his brain is the face I'm making trying to keep up with this first chapter.

The plot and setup seem rather contrived.

Why exactly did the MC decide to do the murder himself?
