I see this looking like a good option if you're stupid, lazy meathead who doesn't want to do any of the work for finding the good ones.

Sure if you're an exception, like our demigod mc, who is prob one of the the best magicians of that world in the future, BUT if you're an unpolished diamond and who has hidden potential.. then that person might have hard time

@Joonhas he's the best magician alive now, remember how magic devolved significantly since his death? the spells that were considerd beginner level at the time are now considered Intermediate if not High level and the spells that were considered intermediate at the time now are considered Ultimate magic that only a few talented folk can use, the high level spells at the time are considered super high level magic that maybe no one is able to use and the ultimate level spells at the time are considerd lost magic and people probably think only gods can use them or something.

He is (at least) the best Human magician, maybe in the future he will have to face against some kind of immortal demon that knows ultimate level spells or something but no human alive now would be able to beat him, plus he is most likely going to get stronger too as time passes.
