It was you, you’re the one who did all of it, you drugged him, used him, threw him away, and then we all blamed him for something he didn’t even have any control over to begin with.
Damn, and here I was defending Julius’ actions previously when it came to forgiving Gaius, when in all reality Julius forgave him because he knew more than we the reader did.
I personally prefer the approach the Manga went over the original WN, this series has been lighthearted and very un-serious in terms of its tone up until now. While normally I would argue that it’s best to stick to the original, I still hold true to my belief that a consistent tone and story is more important. Personally, while the original wouldn’t make me dislike the story, it would have made me question the reasoning behind the author’s decisions.
An editor is very important, most people don’t realize just how valuable having a second person going over your work can be. Even something minor like the time of day, can have a dramatic impact on whatever story you’re trying to tell. But for something major like this, I have no doubt there were tons of questions asked before the decision to cut it out was decided, who knows if things had gone differently, the manga could have had an entirely different tone to it all together just to keep things consistent.
