Okay two things
1. What happened with the Vera who was accompanying her, why didn’t she try to help a bit? I mean she has been shown to be intelligent and very observing in noticing the slightest changes when it comes to our mc.

2. I don’t understand the logic that “if I let him get away with his behavior he will not just get worse since he learns that there isn’t any consequences or road blockers.” It seems out of character for our mc imo, I can understand the trauma but her rationalization seems off.

If your partner beats you and you go along with the story that you fell down the stairs, that ain’t gonna make him less unhinged it can have the opposite effect. And I understand that normally in such relationship the victim can feel trapped, but my god she is the imperial princess and he isn’t even her husband yet.

@Malte I don't get her logic either lol. It seems like writers will come up with any reason to explain/justify the MC's actions, even if they don't make sense. I think the writer here wanted Kayena to appear weak in front of the ML to appeal to him at this moment, hence this logic was made out to be reasonable in this reality. If this were another story where the writer wanted to display the MC's defiance at this moment, I bet that the logic there would be "if I don't stand up for myself here, I'll just be enabling his behaviour". The writer basically decides what is "logical" in this world. I'd often see a similar situation/conflict from different stories, but the "logic" the MCs come up with will be different depending on which direction the writer wants to see the story go.

@space-turtle Yeah, sometimes you can really feel it when an author tries to make a character look smart, reasonable, logical etc. by making the other characters or the world appear to treat that character like they have those qualities even if they don’t. I enjoy this story, and depending on how this is handled in future chapters I don’t really mind it that much, but I find that it is often a symptom of bad writing or a lazy author when such things as what you highlighted happens (it’s a case by case study of course).
