I feel like the mother can't be too successful a slave trader with her low IQ. It doesn't seem to visit her mind that if she loots a crashed carriage, the owner of all the items, let alone the parents of the kid, would suspect she was behind the whole crash.

I've read the novel translation for this bit...
...and I'll say this Manhwa adaptation really tones down Melody's crippling depression from her past life.
This I think is good, as it really held back the novel's FPV narration through lens of clinical depression.

And Melody and Loretta are a lot better off than novel depicted.

Quite a bit event-wise, just in literal rags, on floor, starvation and sharing food.
I think is was more so that editors didn't get in trouble for potentially depicting literal child abuse in a fluff story.
(There is physical and emotional abuse, to a degree I felt like the scrunchyface bear in page 8.)

In the novel, I got the impression Melody hated the novel for what it did to Loretta. A super-stan for Loretta.
Here, it's more depicted as a survival mechanism. In the WN, it was dumb trope "but the plot!" + "I can actually change things".

The self-sacrifice by Melody (what you see here) is downplayed quite a bit as a result.
Melody (figuratively) throws away her own life for Loretta. Which is the part I empathized with the most.
(This chapter didn't depict any of the abuse Melody herself was subject to by her b**** mother.)

Manhwa artist is knocking it of the park with their unique depiction of "blanket fluff ball".
