I completely agree. If she'd cheated it definitely would have come up in the novel and our protagonist would know. I think Gerald is just the type to jump to conclusions and is too much of a possessive child. He probably only liked the novel's female lead because it let him get back at his ex, confirm his conclusion without evidence, and play hero.

I mean, it does make sense that he would act cold and then try to win her back given the circumstances.... But at the same time, the way he is going about this is all wrong!!
He knew she didn't want to be with him, and yet he pressed his engagement with her!
I feel like I'm prejudiced against him because of his awful eyes XD If he had better eyes, I wonder if I would be able to muster up a bit more pity for his situation? Assuming his explanation is actually true....
I wonder what happened in the novel? Everything seems to be backwards now, but is that because the forces of the novel refuse to let things change easily? What with what's-her-name suddenly acting as the villainess... I want to know if she had a fowl personality in the novel too, but different circumstances allowed her to act in a different way, or if she is actually different from how she was in the book?

Sure, it might feel reasonable on the surface but if you strip it, it comes down to:
> cheats on you
> says she doesn’t love you anymore
> then refuses you in all ways possible
> “Omg i should get her back!!”

It’s all phrasing. It’s not reasonable at all.

Also someone who doesn’t respect another’s wishes is a big red flag, no matter how he claims to love you. It’s not romantic. It’s creepy.

I'd understand it if she was from this time period but she's from modern times, she may have taken off the outer layer of her dress but she's still wearing a dress. Although, I suppose that can be attributed due to leftover instincts from Violet.
