Great to see more gl with an awesome style and cryptids, but I think there was use of AI in creating the artwork. It's gorgeous, don't get me wrong, but if you zoom in on a few select faces, there's a lot of weird, hair-like lines around people's eyes which look like unnecessary detail. Not to mention the oddly warped hands characters have in some panels. I love the style and get that it's abstract, but some elements appear wonky and misshaped - very tell-tale of AI generated works.
I'm little disheartened by the fact tbh. If anyone can provide a bit of insight on the artist, I'll rescind my statements. But honestly from what I've gathered, the author seems to have come from the blue with two polished comics (including this one) under their belt with little prior history and I
you can't do 0 research on the artist but still proceed make an accusation on their art and say they've "come from the blue with little prior history" when they've been publicly posting art with clear history for almost a decade that include some mini comics. here's an old art posted on 2018, years before the AI art were open for beta testing.I'm little disheartened by the fact tbh. Yes, but notice how this is a pretty different style from the comic itself—this art specifically doesn't have the aspects of the comic's art that make it seem AI-generated, except the use of very long, flowing strands (of hair, of smoke, etc.). The fact that those AI art red flags are in the comic but not in this human-made art is what makes me uncomfortable. The writing in the comic is likewise strangely AI-adjacent. It could definitely be explained by translation; I don't speak the language it was originally written in, so I can't confirm that. Their youtube channel only has videos from years ago of them painting other things, not the comic. If anyone knows a way I could contact them without a twitter account, I honestly wanna request a vid of them making a panel for the comic, just for peace of mind (and if they're doing it themselves, it would be a cool video!).you can't do 0 research on the artist but still proceed make an accusation on their art and say they've "come from the blue with little prior history" when they've been publicly posting art with clear history for almost a decade that include some mini comics. here's an old art posted on 2018, years before the AI art were open for beta testing.

notice how it was in 2018. it's been nearly decade and styles naturally change over time for most artists. if you really follow artists for a while you'll notice some change their styles, both subtle and drastic. just take a look at those famous "art evolution" videos that show an artist's change a decade or even those "artists swap styles" challenges that'll help you get an idea of how easily styles change. below pic was throughout a few years for ishida, but for rice it was nearly a decade so the drastic change is reasonable. if it gives some peace of mind or hope, their traditional lineart is a style very similar to their digital lineart. well, long time artists have been outed before, but im going to be optimistic because of how similar their traditional lineart looks to their digital lineart.Yes, but notice how this is a pretty different style from the comic itself—this art specifically doesn't have the aspects of the comic's art that make it seem AI-generated, except the use of very long, flowing strands (of hair, of smoke, etc.). yeah the important point is that they've been posting publicly on twitter at least 2017, and all the AI art programs were only open to beta testing in 2022, so that other person's point about the "strands and smoking blending to looking AI" is also moot. just because an artist's composition ideas don't with their subjective idea of composition for a piece that isn't theirs doesn't mean it's AI-like. their thinking is the same thinking that has made people too trigger-happy and caused real artists to be wrongly accused and even harassed. if they've been drawing so long before AI art models were even created, obviously they've already have the skill that will allow them to experiment with and change styles easily.Right now there is overwhelming evidence for a) the artist's ability to produce the work and that b) AI generation just simply is not advanced enough to produce something like this. I really don't think subjective identification of AI elements in the work justifies scrutiny for what looks like a pretty longtime artist. It's true that you can't be 100% sure nowadays about anything, but I would refrain from making such serious accusations at this point in time when there is plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.
Lots of artists have been wrongly harassed by people jumping the gun.
You clearly need to spend more time learning how to discern AI generated images from hand drawn & how to research someone history before accusing them of using AI.Great to see more gl with an awesome style and cryptids, but I think there was use of AI in creating the artwork. There's many artists that won't render their comic art the same as a single illustration because it would take too much time so it's not uncommon the rendering will be done in a simpler style, especially if there are time constraints like having to have a chapter out by the end of every week/month......Yes, but notice how this is a pretty different style from the comic itself—this art specifically doesn't have the aspects of the comic's art that make it seem AI-generated, except the use of very long, flowing strands (of hair, of smoke, etc.). I've actually been a fan of Rrrrrrice's art for years, though I didn't initially realize this comic was theirs. So I do trust them, and I want to trust them, but I'm also just very wary of anything on the internet at this point.
Hi! New user here. Just wanna clarify a few things that you might not know due to language barrier. Rrrrrrice is a Chinese indie artist, and her comic was translated and reposted on this site without permission. She wasn't even informed of this and had to find out by herself. I don't know if this is a common practice here but it looks a bit like copyright infringement to me. In fact, the artist HAS posted the comic on a Chinese site - all content, free of charge. But I don't think that justifies reposting without permission - I mean it was taken straight from the source, with watermarks still on. And to accuse the writing of being AI-generated is even more ridiculous when you can't and won't take the time to read the original texts. It would seem pretty hypocritical to demand a speed paint video from the artist to prove herself innocent while the version of this comic you were reading was made without her consent. You might be "wary of any content on the internet" but I am also tired of people jumping to conclusions and accusing the use of gen-AI based on nothing but their own assumptions. Creators are not content machines and they don't have the obligation to have their artwork scrutinized and picked at by a condescending audience.Yes, but notice how this is a pretty different style from the comic itself—this art specifically doesn't have the aspects of the comic's art that make it seem AI-generated, except the use of very long, flowing strands (of hair, of smoke, etc.).
